The Perfect Doll: Ch 2 - Reincarnation

Reincarnation

Cold, leering dark brown eyes with an intense gaze stared blankly across the wall. Looking as if there was the answer to all of life’s dangerous curiosities. But of course, there was no reason, he was just simply too concentrated at his own dark morbid thoughts than pay attention to others reactions. This young man’s name was Alan Cyril Griever. His parents were of royal descent but fate had other plans for them. They were forced to move away from Great Britain and he was born on American land. His family’s riches were carried over, making them fairly wealthy among others. He was handsome, charming, and well mannered and hid his criticism quite well. However, despite the fact he is wealthy and could have anything he wanted; he was bored. Life was the same, uninteresting routine day after day. The wind blew a scent of change his way, though; the smell of it seemed to be full of blood. For a second, he didn’t seem to care. But curiosity got the best of him and he followed it.

It seemed to originate in front of a very old, demolished looking antique shop. The scent wavered in the air for only but a moment, and then dispersed, leaving nothing but the memory of it there. Confusion filled Alan’s mind. His dark eyes wondered over the shop’s exterior. Somehow, it seemed to pull him into the door. The thing that most attracted him to it was the window. Different colors in all hue’s seemed to shine translucently on the glass, casting what seemed to be like wings that disappeared and reappeared on it in the light. Mischievous intentions filled his thoughts as he entered through the doorway, into the dark musky store.

Darkly lit candles filled the interior. The flames danced rhythmically around, making the room sway in its silent dance that was completely unpredictable. He was drawn to them, hypnotized by it. A floral scent made their way into his nostrils. He sniffed hesitantly at first, but then was so intoxicated by it that he took deep, long breathes. It was very pleasant to him, though he couldn’t help but to feel that it was a familiar smell, yet could not remember the name nor remember what it was.

Alan moved slowly in the room, walking past large antique furniture and cabinets that looked like as if they came from royalty somewhere off in a different world or a different continent. “Come.. To me…” He stopped walking, the voice sent shivers down his spine yet it excited him to no end. His breath quickened and he walked swiftly through the rows of tables and chairs, desperately trying to locate a source. “Hello there.” A strong male voice appeared behind him causing him to jump with surprise. “Good day, sir.” Alan said immediately as he turned around. The man smiled at him and bowed. He didn’t seem to be very old, maybe around mid-twenties or probably even less. His dark brown hair was a little past his shoulders and was loosely tied with a thin ribbon. His grey eyes were kind, but also seemed to hold a secret as Alan looked into them. “If there is anything you need help with, just ask.” His voice was deep and tender, he seemed very eloquent indeed.

“I’m just looking around, that’s all. I hope it doesn’t trouble you.”

The man smiled and simply bowed. “Not a trouble at all.” With a change of step, he turned away, walking down the rows of furniture and disappearing into another room with a click of his dress shoe heels. Leaving Alan there alone to freely wander around once more.

Alan’s heart beat rapidly as he watched him disappear. “Come to me… Awaken me..” That small whisper of a voice again. This seemed to give Alan a reason to continue on. Treading lightly on the wooden flooring he followed what he could with his nose, the floral scent seemed to grow stronger in one direction and then weaker the next. However, he didn’t give up. An isolated path away from the other objects, caused his heart to jump and race eagerly in his ribcage. His long legs carried him to a dead end and then he turned towards his side. His dark eyes grew wide.

White flowers of an unknown origin and an unknown name littered inside and outside of a glass coffin. At first glance they seemed to resemble water lilies, but on closure inspection they looked like a mix of water lilies and roses. Thorny vines entangled it from top to bottom, however it left the middle exposed. A pair of blood red eyes stared out of it. Alan’s heart skipped a beat when he saw her. He was thought that there was a dead person there. Soon he realized that it must have been a doll of some sort, though, the wonderfully powerful scent came from there. He stared into its eyes, completely entranced by the beauty of it. Porcelain white skin, luscious red lips, a petite face with curled hair and beautiful red eyes that seemed to be staring at the wall next to him. A small silver crown adorned the top of her head, embedded with little white ice diamonds. He admired her stillness. Her ability to lay there in wait day after tedious day. Somehow, he felt himself longing and wishing that she was real. He chuckled at his own thoughts. A beautiful doll was all she was, at least, that’s what he thought until.. Her blood red eyes shifted and stared straight at him.

Alan stumbled back into a cabinet behind him, he blinked furiously and saw that her eyes were back, staring blankly at the wall again. He breathed in heavily. “It’s just an illusion…” He looked back slowly, wondering if she had moved again. Nothing, it was still as the scent of the flowers. Long, fluid footsteps penetrated the quiet room as the owner walked up to him, he looked at Alan silently and then back towards the doll. He turned and walked towards it, drawn to it as Alan was earlier. But his was right in front of it, and he peeled the thorny vines away from the glass enclosure. Blood dripped from his fingertips and flowed down, staining his white dress shirtsleeves. Alan watched in horror as the coffin was opened. An overwhelming scent of flowers drowned into his lungs. It seemed to paralyze him as he slid to the floor. The man’s eyes looked deeply at the doll, her eyes slowly moved to look at him. His face inched closer and closer to hers, pressing their lips together. His bleeding hand lightly tucked his finger under her chin and blood splattered across her pure white long-sleeved Victorian dress. Alan felt a flash of pain and envy towards the man and watched as he pulled away and stood to the side. It was sight that Alan couldn’t help but not turn away from, his eyes glued onto the two. Slowly her hands lightly rose and reached out, positioning themselves on the sides of the glass coffin to pull her out of her sleeping prison.

Her beautiful head lowered as she stepped out and it continued to stay that way as she walked up towards Alan. He shivered violently as she neared, a feeling he never knew before seemed to flow over him. Her blood stained dress softly fluttered to the ground beside him as she sank down to eye level of him; she lifted her head and looked intently into his eyes, as if determining who he was. She stood, turned and stepped back. Alan could see a large white bow tied above her skirt with floor length ribbons draping down onto both sides of her feet where she wore small white platform boots that ended below her knees. She was wavering on her feet, as if she hadn’t walked for several days. Then, she kneeled before Alan. Lightly placing her right hand below her left shoulder and bowed her head. “Master.. I hear… And I will obey.”

Completely and utterly baffled, Alan sat there against the side of a cabinet and stared widely at her. The man walked up a little behind the girl and looked at him. “I am assuming you’re the new master to Rei.”

“Who..?”

“Rei Ningyou. The girl in front of you who’s kneeling.” There was an unhappy tone in his voice and his eyes seem full of remorse and sadness.

“Hagi.. Do not interfere.” The girl said without emotion at all.

It was the third time Alan had heard this voice, and it was like snow, it flowed and melted into his soul. He was very sure that if she sung, it would sound like the angels. “I’m sorry. Hagi serves me and me alone. He will be of no use to you. My name is Rei. I am your doll, thank you for awakening me.” The girl, Rei, said quietly while looking into Alan’s eyes. He was completely entranced by her. But he knew, he didn’t hate it at all.
