::Death is not my Enemy::Cassidy's Prayer::

We’ve spent all our days,
Fighting for our lives;
Fighting just to see tomorrow--
We’re fighting to survive

All we do is look outside,
But we can never leave
All of us are doomed to die--
So Death is not my enemy

For if we win, we’re taken back
Forced to imagine what it is like,
In rooms with windows made of glass,
A world where we don’t have to fight

But if we die, then we are burned
Our ashes scattered to the wind
And hopefully we never return
To the only place that we have been

Of the two choices, I’d choose to die
Than fight for all enternity
So I consider the flames my friend,
And Death is not my enemy

Aeh. This is the song/prayer thing my character Cassidy Midorin created. She's 11. Hopefully, I'll upload the pages of the manga I've got so far.

She's somewhat like a gladiator--and she's really good at it too. Here's a little excerpt from the script:

"Every time I fight, they make me a deal. If I win, I can leave. And every time, I believe them.

This arena has been my home for as long as I can remember...I've never left these walls, never stepped into the outside world. All I know is how to fight--and how to win. That's all I was taught.

Sometimes, I think it's better to lose--they take your body and burn it outside, you see. If you win, you're taken back to a holding cell with a bad draft all the time. You lose either way.

I never thought about how painful it is to see something you so desperately want behind eight inches of solid glass. They'd put me in the glass room as punishment if I refused to compete, but sometimes I wouldn't cooperate just to get into that room. Even though it hurts, I get to see outside. It doesn't matter how much they beat me or starve me before I actually get to the room. Nothing matters, not as long as I get to feel the cool glass against my cheek or the sunlight on my eyelids.

That's how desperate I've become.
"
