Does everyone remember that image I did in colored pencil for my CD cover? Good.

Anyway I decided that I would do a full on CD cover, front, inside cover and a back cover. This is the final version of that sketch I did in colored pencil. Sadly it didnt turn out quite the way I wanted it too but then its the first time I've done anything with such detail in acrylics, so for a first intent it didnt turn out too bad. If I had really good small brushes and did it in guache it probably would have turned out better. I actually like how the brush strokes are visible in this version cause it gives it a more atmospheric look.

Now for the "meaning" of the concept. The idea was basically a sort of Organic vs. Inorganic. The upper half with the head and the butterfly is the organic, but slowly the body is decaying into an inorganic form. Something that can happen when man destroys nature. I tried to make the figure more androgynous though it looks more like a bishy type man myself but meh....I also made the hair blue as a symbol of water which is the source of all life and the one thing that man cannot fully contain or control, also the symbol of water having healing properties as well.

Also, with the world today we are so dependent on technology and we have everything from laptops, cellphones, all kinds of things that we become detached from the world and we spend more time interacting with people through technology than actual social interaction.

I actually heard two kids a week ago talking like in that cell commercial talking in the "WTF? OMG! NBD" and it just made me realized that there is a problem with the world....

The whole idea of the CD cover was for a Jrock band or something, since some of the bands I like sing about death, or problems with society, as well as Kyo being a master at his lyrics having double meanings, I wanted to kind of create something that could have a double or multiple meanings to different people. I dont know if I accomplished exactly what I wanted but I do like how it came out.
