EDIT: Okay, now that I'm fully awake, it's time for a description/clarification/list of abilities/explanation of abilities/whatever...

First of all: yes, his wings are supposed to look like that. Both ways. You see, when in use, his wings are as black as a void, but when at rest, they most resemble gray silk in appearance; both versions feel like smooth silk.

His main ability is the generation of energy of the Darkness element, which most often takes the form of a perfectly shaped, perfectly black sphere of up to ten feet in diameter (and all the way down to about the size of a small marble) which causes damage to its opponent ranging from a slight burn (similar to frostbite) to complete annihilation based on the amount of energy used (generally, the more energy used, the larger the sphere, but using more effort the sphere can be compressed to a smaller size for more precise destruction).

As for his "jewelry": these items act as seals which keep him bound to his physical form (and, for that matter, keep his physical form intact). (Though not visible, he has seals on his ankles as well.) Without said seals, he would be required to constantly concentrate on keeping his power from literally tearing apart his physical body from within (and returning him to his original shadow-like state); this means that he can remove the seals if necessary (such as when he is taking a bath [he actually finds baths to be very relaxing, because when not using his powers, he doesn't have to concentrate as much on keeping his body intact]). During combat, he has to be careful how much energy he uses; too much can overload the seals and destroy them, one by one. The first to go would be the largest, the one around his left arm. The next would be the one around his right arm. Then either one of the ankle seals, followed by the other. And lastly (and most importantly), the neck seal, which is what truly keeps him bound to the physical plane. In fact, the only purpose for the other seals is to prevent the neck seal from being destroyed; if they break, he can continue fighting, but at a vastly increased risk to his existence as a physical being. (The seals are easily replaced, being made from a metal alloy that simply resembles gold; it is the enchantments placed on them that enable them to bind him to his physical form.) An endnote: The neck and left arm seals take the longest to break.

When he fights, it is usual for a faint black (yes, black, and I don't mean the sort of "black" you get with blacklights; I mean real black) glow to surround him; this glow intensifies and becomes more and more flamelike as he uses more of his power. When the first seal breaks, his pupils start to become misshapen and start growing tendrils, as if his irises are starting to crack; this process continues as more seals are destroyed, with the blackness completely enveloping (a better term might be "replacing") his irises (and eventually his entire eyes) by the time the neck seal is the only one left. As well, his body is now covered in black flame, which deals almost as much damage as one of his normal attacks if it touches an enemy (this includes the ground, though in that case it's usually more of a melting effect rather than disruption of molecules and atoms). If the neck seal happened to break, he would erupt into black flame and shadow, becoming a sort of ghost/wraithlike being of pure (darkness) energy who, though incredibly powerful, would not be able to last long on the physical plane of existence without being resealed.

(Also, for anyone who might be wondering: he's about five feet tall.)
