Back before I joined the cast I was seeing a lot of questions on the help boards (this is also before the faq) and was in the process of creating a "Sheezy for Dummies" guide. I put off uploading it when I heard whispers of a faq coming back.
This is from that (with most chopped off as it's now answered in said faq) and I expanded it to include screencaps for two of the programs I have for animating one's avatar.
Just the basics of animating an av and naming a few programs that can be used to make it. Basic stuff if you have no clue at all how it works.

Rather interesting!! I never actually knew that the animation needed to be 75x75 to animate, I know that is how big the avatar usually is but I figured that you could use any size animation (as some I have seen on avatars are rather pixelated) also there is someone I know on here who has been wondering about this for a while, I'll be sure to pass it on when they next sign in. Nice, simple and informative, the way things should be

Thanks! Especially for the 75x75 rule! That's why my new ani-icon wasn't working!

Wow this is great and very helpful
but I was wondering if the Microsoft GIF Animator is free? or do you have to buy it?

Really cool, this will help a lot of people once they stumble upon it! :)

This is much easier in Flash.
