My brother saw this guy sitting in the sun when he got off the bus. It's a snapping turtle. A VERY vicious turtle. They will bite you and not let go. Not only that, but they have the ability to remove fingers. Yes, there is good reason why my dad hosed him off while holding his tail. (He was caked in red mud and we wanted to see his colors before taking him to the pond)

My sis and I caught a leather-back snapping turtle once, so I know what you mean. He was big and mean, we kept our fingers away from his mouth, though. What kind of snapper is this angry fello? :3

Lets see..holding him by the tail like that can cause nerve damage; the proper way is to hold him behind the back legs on each side of his tail. And he is a young alligator snapper.
snappers are not aggressive turtles. They are only cautious, how does he know you're not going to kill him? And yes if you are dumb enough to put your hand in his mouth, he may bite and not let go.
