Nice job with the background elements. :) And as mentioned before, you did a really great job at sort of blending it all in and the like. I would say as a wallpaper, although maybe this is not the case with your mother, I can't stand white wallpapers. They will burn my retina if I stare long enough at them. I would maybe make the background a lighter red, maybe sort of an earthy tone. Unless your mother likes white. :)
Sorry to say so, but you really only need to submit one of these to the critique club. It's the exact same picture, flipped. Don't submit too many similar things if you can help it. >_>
As for the wallpaper, I dislike the drop shadow and think it would be better without it. I also kind of dislike the gradient... perhaps there is a better way to define that shape rather than just fading it out to white. I also agree with that white wallpapers are not likely to appear to people due to how bright they are. I'll second that a brown might be nice, or a deep red.
