Sonnet #1
I am the caged bird who sings of the flight,
Not knowing the feel of wind beneath wings,
Longing to reach that unreachable height,
Wanting to know what the changing wind brings.
A writer who's locked within his on cell,
I know what he feels when words will not flow,
Hand and mouth chained, full of stories to tell,
Wishing to write fanciful tales of woe.
A marcher chants for his piece of justice,
Reaching for his goal of that promised land,
Frustrated and yearning for unknown bliss,
I know what it's like to be the one banned.
Love has shunned me and refused me my chance,
Never will I know that great lover's dance.
