Walking Back

-Edward's POV throughout the story-

Ba-dum....ba-dum...ba-dum...

Here I am...sitting and looking at such a lifeless body that was burned and scorched to death,still with a soul,painfully trying to escape.

I hold tightly to his hands-which are still warm.

Ba-dum...ba-dum...ba-dum...

I can still feel his steady heart beat slowly pounding against his chest.

Was this all my fault?I shouldn't have left him there like a stray kitten that was neglected by it's owner-it's only family.I just heard him scream in pain and terror.I clench my fists as I recall what had happened-another agonizing flashback flooding...

All I could do was watch and hear his screaming until everything finally turned cold and dark.....

/Brother!Brother!Help me!/I hear him coughing furiously as he yells./Please!Help me....!/

....Now I can hear him softly calling out for me.

'Nii-san...Nii-san...'

I look at his face with guilt and sorrow.And all I can say is,'I'm sorry'.

His cheek is alittle burnt with cuts.I put my hands on his cheek gently and suddenly feel all of his pain.

He didn't suffer as much in the fire...his body-outside-is fine.'He'll just have some scars' says the doctor...but also something disturbing.'He has breathed in too much smoke that might kill him'

At night,I'm still there beside my one and only.The moonlight shining and focusing on only me and him.I start quietly crying and I swear...sometimes I hear him sobbing with me as a reply to my tears.

I want to help him.Take off those bandages-wrapped neatly around his hands and where his forehead is,underneath his bangs.

I whisper oh so quietly to him,"One day...we'll walk out of here and go home together and I'll protect you better and we can...live on together for the rest of our lives."

I hear him coughing and I see his piercing gold eyes open,staring at me."That...sounds...nice.....Thank you..."He whispers and starts breathing his last breath.

I look at him,knowing something wrong was happening.The bright gold color seemed to be fading and becoming dull,looking like his spirit had finally left it's home-his body.His hand becomes cold and it's grip becomes loose,not holding on to my hand anymore.

He closes his eyes and his expression seems to be...happiness and peacefulness.I feel tears rolling down on my cheek.

I feel isolated and without and control.I can't help him...I couldn't help him.He left me to be alone.He let my life never be the same.Without him....

Ba-dum...ba-dum..ba-dum...

I hear a heartbeat,looking at him hopefully and then noticing the hard pounding in my chest.

Here I am...sitting and looking at such a lifeless
body that was burned and scorched to death,letting out loud cries,accepting the fact that the precious soul has escaped.
