Valentine's-and-also-birthday gift to myself.
One of my idiotically obsessively favorite things in all the world is something called
Eat-Man. It began as a comic book by Akihito Yoshitomi (Sadly, only the first two volumes have been published in America...even though art-god Jim Lee pencilled the cover for the second volume in a super-cool trade he and Yoshitomi did), and was then made into not one, but
two animated tv series,
Eat-Man and
Eat-Man '98, respectively, each of one season, following an episodic format, each of which contains a new obligatory hotchick of the moment. It's all girls, guns, and repeated footage to try to save money. In the moments when it's not just "WTF, mate?" bizarre, it's pretty mediocre. I think it's awesome, and it rocks my world.
This is a little painting of Bolt Crank (Yes, that's his name.), the metal-munching protagonist. He's a tall, silent adventurer-for-hire with an unusual power connected to a downright-weird diet, wandering alone through a fantastic future world full of robots and deserts and various neat vehicles.
It's been nice to have the time to pull out my markers and actually properly color something for a change...Though my rustiness with them shows somethin' awful. Ah, well.

Ah, dude, I remember seeing trailers for Eat-Man '98 on some of my old Slayers tapes. I was always like "...He's chewing on screws."
I do dig on his somber, somewhat menacing presence, though. I do have a thing for glasses.
Veddy noice!

I still remember when I first rented that and introduced you to that series... I had just picked out something random, and you ended up watching it with me and we both ended up falling in love with the series.
I still need to translate those volumes I got of Eat-Man in Japanese...
