Counter Measures ch II
**
Stupid executives.. they don't know shit from sausage in my line of work. Walking behind them.. They should walk behind me, I'm the one with the expertise in useful things here. Most of them are just figureheads. I scowl to myself, thinking of the uselessness of this "great country"'s executive class.
"Mr. Yaku?"
Hmm... showtime at last?
"Yes, Executor Raido?"
"Stop scowling. You're making us look bad."
...Damnit!
"Yes sir."
When would these incompetents stop hindering me... I got a strange feeling in the conference room, and I couldn't go back and check it out because these ass-clowns want me to follow them everywhere!
Keep calm, Gerard. We mustn't show our true opinions. Honesty is fatal. If not to my self, then at least to my career. We continue to walk through the halls, with the occasional minister branching off to head to their own floor. Proceeding around twisting hallways, up and down elaborate elevator systems, and through security checkpoints, until the pack has thinned to contain only the Executor, Gau, and me.
Passing through a final security checkpoint, we enter a spacious office, the door flanked by two ex-military guards on either side, one of each pair armed with AK-108s, the other two holding Saiga-12 combat shotguns. I give a nod to the two pairs, having supervised significant portions of their training, and enter behind the execs. Shutting the door behind us, I wait for them to take their seats and then begin.
"Executor, you're really pushing the line here. The likelihood is that someone will find out about our new factory and search it out, and then "
"I thought you said that Sicoro didn't know about our operation?"
"They don't, but that doesn't mean someone freelance won't check us out on the off chance we're doing something worth reporting."
"No one will care." Why would Gau interrupt here? What information did he have? Was he playing some angle?
"Sir, with all due respect, you have no evidence to support that claim"
"I have decided. No one will care, and even if they do, they won't suspect a thing. The operation will continue as planned."
Damned bullheaded asshole, but there was nothing I could say now. His tone was the sort that said "If you disagree, you will not be in a position to do so again".
"Yes sir. May I go to attend other matters?"
"Leave us."
"Yes sir."
I left the office, and stopped to make small talk with the guards.
"How are the Saigas holding up?" Why would Gau be so insistent this would work?
"Oh, just about as can be expected. I don't know why we didn't get the Saiga-SWATs, though. They're much easier to reload" And why would Raido back him so strongly? What did they have planned?
"Yes, that's true, but it works both ways. If you can reload them easily, so can the man who picks it off your corpse. With the Saiga-12s, you and the other guards have the advantage of having trained to reload them quickly." Maybe they were just being their usual head-up-the-ass executive selves.. I can dream, can't I?
"Yeah, that's the damned truth, Mr. Yaku. Those 108s are crazy good, too. I don't understand completely how they do it, but the recoil is mad low." I'd have to do some snooping around my allies, now, too? This day is just getting better by the minute.
"Good, good. I've seen that you've all been shooting better than anyone else in the range, that's why you're here. I have to be going now, however. Good day" You're also the most loyal... to me.
"Sir!"
