I drew this VF-1J on paper during a fit of inspiration after watching the Robotech Remastered series one day. I figured I should color it, cuz it looked awesome, so I scanned it and made the line art into a monocrome bmp like I usually do, then started coloring in OC. Halfway through coloring it I thought "It needs a background". Well, I toyed with the idea of superimposing it onto some backgrounds, but in the end I resolved to just make my own. Well, my friend Bruce suggested I make him in space, but his left foot looks like it's planted on something solid. He suggested it be planted on an enemy battlepod, but then I got the idea to make it the hull of a zentraidi battleship
and so I colored the background black and drew in the ship under the veritech's foot and presto! Of course, I had to color in all those stars. That was a pain in the rear!
A couple things were brought to my attention after I posted this on DA, and I admit, they're things I'm not happy with, such as the rigidity of the mecha's posture, and it's something I've resolved to work on with my art. Rest assured, since this picture was concieved I've come a bit further with my posturing, though I still tend to draw a lot of my characters and mecha just standing. This is mostly because I enjoy designing them more than putting them in action, though I do plan on expanding my skills more as time progresses.
