I have mixed feelings about this actually being a PS3 owner.
I think that the PS3 is an amazing system, but at the same time the games for it suck like hell and I am wating for FFXIII to come out so I can actully fully appriciate it.
So in the end part of me agrees with you and part of me is crying on the inside over what may have been a waste of $600.
My console can do twice the pixel shaders for half the price. I'm not a fanboy, but Microsoft products have always worked well for me. And I've never been 100% happy with Sony products. Nice image, that's basically where the console belongs, besides in the bed of a Sony fanboy.
