The Silke/Silky was a creature in Irish myth and legend, a special creature who would shed it's seal skin to become a woman sunbathing on the rocks of the sea. If you captured her skin she was your's to command. But if she ever found it again to the sea she would have to return.
In a story I really love the greatgrandfather (or maybe a little further back) saw a silke and fell in love. He captured her skin and married her. He hid her skin in the attic. One day her oldest daughter asked her why father kept a seal skin hidden up there. She immediately rushed to the attic. When he came home he found his children all alone, but every once in a while he would see a seal watching him from the shore or following him in his fishing boat. From that time on that family's line would occassionally give birth to a darker haired, slightly darker skinned child. Hence the "Dark Irish" were born.
There is alot more to the whole story. I really recommend the story/movie, The Secret of Roan Inish (Seal Island).
I think the title is a little ... ironic... but it was the only thing I could come up with while I was working on it.
The background is more hastily done... ADHD was kicking in, I wanted to finish it, and I had already spent 2-3 days on it.... definately my longest piece to date. Thanks

for the tips and suggestions.
