Crystal Clear

She stares into the life size glass,
And sees nothing but a skeleton.
The flesh rotting off her bones,
Because her innocence has been
Corrupted.
Slowly wasting away,
Her bones are connected
By nothing but
Insults;
"You'll never be pretty."

She feels the tears running
Unchecked down her face,
But does not see them
For there is an old hag
Staring at her through the glass.
She laughs her old witchy laugh,
And crones
"Come, come, my sweet."
The girl can only stammer,
And the hag laughs her witchy laugh
And tells
"Why you'll never catch a lad's attention now
And only waste away,
Dreaming of what never will be."

And now a lonely figure
Walks amidst an abandoned lakeside.
When she peers into the water
Only a blotch of white appears where her face should be.
A scream renders from those nameless lips,
Unheard.
She closes her eyes to rid herself
Of the horrid images
Playing out before her.
When she opens her eyes once more
She sees only herself.

There are so many things in this world,
So many images, which hide our true selves.
To see the future we only need
Look through the life size looking glass,
And let our imaginations soar.
You never know what you may find.
