Sarcastic Love ch. 6
Chapter 6: The Unexpected
When six o' clock rolled around I was dressed in my best clothes I owned. It consisted of a light blue button up shirt with a dark green long sleeved thermal underneath it as well as dark blue denim jeans; with no holes of course. I combed my hair and gathered all my clothes, throwing them in a hamper and slung my jacket on. I smiled at my reflection in the window as I started towards Thayne's house.
When I got to his door I knocked three times and took two steps back, looking to my feet where the hamper was. I watched my breath float out of my mouth and into the air like dust does. I always loved winter; it made me feel numb, like I always do only it was a better feeling of numb.
He answered the door with a towel on his head and smiled goofily, "Man, right on time as always Caleb." I couldn't really tell if he was sarcastic or being truthful nor did I really care at this moment. I was just happy to see that he was in high spirits this evening.
"Well yea, have I really been known for being late when coming over to your house?" I smiled deviously and bent down to pick up the hamper when he dived for it at the same time. We butted heads and I grunted, "Ah! Ouch!" I rubbed my forehead and had fallen backwards onto my butt.
He just laughed at me while he rubbed his forehead as well, "Heh, you should know better than to reach for something when I'm going to, you always get hit in the head." He was right as always and stood up straight. He decided to be extra nice and pulled me up with his strong arms, accidentally pulling me too forward, although I think it was on purpose. He hugged me and I couldn't have been happier to "accidentally" stumble into his arms.
"You dork..." I pulled away and bent down slowly to pick up my clothes and walked in after him. He didn't have a big place but it seemed huge compared to my hole-in-the-wall place. I sat the hamper down near the washer and dryer in the laundry room and headed out to the living room. Nothing's really changed here; I should probably explain how I know huh?
Well it all happened in freshman year when I met him. He was a favorite teacher amongst the drama kids because at the time, there were two teachers and one just wasn't well liked. When we first saw each other we smiled and stared; I was flabbergasted and I think he was enjoying the expression on my face. He spoke first, "Welcome to Drama class." A normal teacher greeting and I nodded; a normal student response.
Well, as you can see, I grew attracted and attached to him and him to me so ... he would invite me over for dinner and what not. It was like he always knew how to cheer me up. We never actually did anything... too bad, but he did make me realize that you never know who you might stumble across in life to make your life a little easier.
Anyway, back to reality.
As I sat on the couch Thayne bounced over and sat in front of me, a smile on his face, "Would you please braid my hair?" I had learned to do this by watching my mom braid my older sister's hair, "please?" he asked with puppy dog eyes. He always loved it when I did it; I think he just liked it when people played with his hair.
I laughed and nodded while picking up his wet hair and started to braid. Under...over...under...over I'd repeat over and over in my head until it was all braided. I smiled, very content with my work and tapped his shoulders, "All done!"
He wiggled and flopped back into me, causing me to fall back into the couch, " Ah, much better!" he giggled and stood up slowly, " Alright then I think it's time for hot cocoa!" he reached his hand out and grabbed mine, dragging me to his kitchen. I really had no other say in that.
For the rest of the night we watched old movies and stayed up until 3 in the morning. Then we dragged ourselves into his room, "alllriiiiighty it's time for BED."I said sounding rather drunk; I was only exhausted unless Thayne put something in the cocoa....
He laughed and held me up, his arm around my shoulders, his hand upon my diaphragm supporting me, "Yes, it sure is, I'll get you some pj's out of the wash for you to wear." He left me sitting on the bed while he went and did that.
My cell phone rang but I couldn't find it, I was too tired and incoherent to answer, so I let it go. When he did come back he threw pajama bottoms at my face and slowly climbed into bed.
"G'night Kah-leb." Damn, he was making fun of me...this late at night. Talk about taking advantage. I inwardly laughed at my thoughts as I slipped into the pj's and crawled into bed with him. He was so warm; I could feel my fingers start to tingle. You know, like when you're hand goes numb and you shake it around trying to get feeling back, yes...it felt like that. I finally dozed off and actually dreamt a good dream, no nightmares for me tonight.
Thank goodness.
When I woke up I had my head up on his chest. I smiled a moment before slowly stirring around and leaning up slightly to see what was my surroundings were. The only thing that my mind was focused on... was the sleeping Thayne. He looked so angelic at that moment with the blinds' shadows on his face, the light was falling just right... another picture perfect moment.
Wait... Jacey.
I winced and sat up, hanging my feet off to the side of the bed and fumbling through my jacket pockets for my cell phone, remembering there was a call, and to see what time it was. 1:00pm... hmm lots of sleep. I'm wide awake. I took a closer look after I put my glasses on and noticed a voicemail icon on it, someone actually left a message? Wow.
I slowly moved from the bed and slinked into the living room and shivered. It was really cold in his house; I didn't realize it until now. Guess it was because I was next to Thayne all night.
With a shake of my head I called my voicemail and pressed the necessary buttons, anxiously waiting for the voicemail.
Who could it be?
The voice sounds so familiar. I had to press 11 for it to repeat...
It was... my sister?
"C-Caleb!" she sounded like she was scared or in a hurry, "You need to come home! Dad has just like...gone off the deep end... dammit! Why didn't you pick up! Caleb!" Her voice sort of screeched when it suddenly was hung up.
Shit.
I don't think I was ever in this much of a hurry to get to my parents house, ever. The only family I ever liked was my older sister, she understood me for some reason. I quickly walked into Thayne's room and slide my shoes on, threw my shirts back on and my jacket. I didn't want to leave him, but I had to. I kissed his cheek and left him a text message as I walked out the door.
Why do I feel like I've done this before, why won't the Déjà vu end?!
