Omega 3.02

"Rise and shine." Sophia sat up at Macy's un-hushed voice. It felt like she had fallen asleep only moments ago. "Com'on. We've got work to do."
"Ugh." Was the start of her protest, "Five more minutes."
"Life doesn't wait."
She whimpered. "Breakfast first?"
"You'll thank me if you eat afterward. Come on." He grabbed her arm and tugged her out of bed. She whined but slid on the slippers she had apparently been given and went, half dragged by the second in command.
The process of learning how to sync was one Macy would never quite forget, mostly because he was terribly unaware of exactly what was going on around him for the first few weeks of his life on the ship. That and the feeling of drowning in the middle of space wasn't entirely comforting. In a similar turn of events Sophia would never really forget her first experience either. Even Thrace would admit Macy probably pulled her too far too fast. Thrace left Macy to comfort her dry heaves. The dizziness and sudden flood of information and emotion made her sick. Luckily she processed it fast enough not to end up on a bed in the med lab again.
"Alright." he rubbed the back of her neck gently. "Breakfast time."
She gripped his shirt and coughed before using him as leverage to stand upright. "Fuck you."
"What did I say about flirting with me?" He helped her get steady. "Besides, I don' fuck kids."
"Don't call me a kid, you're probably five years older than me."
"Try thirty."
"Okay, so you're ten years older."
"No." He walked her toward the kitchen. "I'm 30 years older."
She stopped dead in her tacks. "You're 50?!"
He paused and looked over his shoulder at her. "Fifty-two in a few weeks. And I've actually grown a few inches since I was your age."
She crinkled her nose. "That's a long time to have a stick up your ass." She didn't believe him.
He smiled and tugged her along. "You can't run a ship like this with out kahunas."
"I thought you were the second in command."
"I am. But I was cap'ain until Thrace was old enough... No. More like until he was ready. I think he was old enough when his father had 'er."
"So, Son waits for the father to give her up, morns appropriately, and then takes over."
Macy exploded with rage at her words. He shoved her against a wall. "Don't you dare talk about dem like vultures. You got no fuckin' right to pick on a situation you don know a damn thing about. I should gut'cha for suggesting it." He stood back and glared at her. The light flickered and the wall behind her had become harder. She didn't really notice, but Macy knew it was Thrace acknowledging the situation before promptly not caring.
"I'm... I'm sorry." She tried to sink back but found nothing but cold steel to greet her.
"You need to understand something. I owe Star more than jus' my life. And seein' how there's not much I can do for 'im, I'm in debt to Thrace up to where I'd rather not have the sun shinin'. Don' insult my fam'ly."
"Yes sir." She bit her lip and looked away, falling instep behind him as he continued.
"We'll work on your hand to hand tonight before dinner. Do you do anything that can help around the ship?"
"I don't know. Other than backing up the captain and being my baby sitter what do you do?"
"I'm a doctor and I entertain the crew."
"No offense meant, but I don't see you as a comedian."
"I'm not." He paused as the door opened. "I sing."
"And he is very good at it." Sei commented, adding under her breath after ward, "For a man." She was taller than Sophia, but shorter than Macy who stood fairly close to a foot taller than the half-Asian. She appeared to be wrapped in tight black leather, with the only skin visible being what was above her collar. She even seemed to be wearing gloves under her cooking mitt. From what could be told over her figure, not that it was very hidden, she was thin and well built for combat- but could almost pass for a Ritz male if you saw here from the corner of your eye. Her ears were rather pointed. Sophia didn't catch a glance at her eyes but they looked piercing from what she did see. Her hair was shorter, and appeared to have a purple in the highlights of its overall blackness. She also wore a white apron that stated simply 'kiss the cook', an action that Macy almost seemed to ponder for a moment.
"Thank you dear." He smiled.
"Kiss me and I will cut it off." Macy moved in a wide circle passed the cook after her threat. She'd make good of it too he was sure. "Your food is on the table, and if you think you are going to want desert in the next few weeks you better talk to Thrace about stopping for some fresh fruit."
Macy whimpered. "We're out of apples?"
"Yes."
"What about the-"
"Those too."
"You shoulda told me." Sophia snuck past, her stomach following the smell of food.
Sei growled. "Eat your breakfast."
He sighed. "Yes'um." He retreated to the table where Sophia was already eating. She was watching his personality flip-flop again and seriously doubting his mental stability. Even Syncing with him didn't give her many hints as to what was up with him, other than he was very anxious as of recently.
She had finished eating before Macy and stared around at the walls while he finished. Pictures of the crew past and present caught her attention. After a moment she stood to get a better look at one of them. She saw Macy and many faces she didn't recognize, and the back of a very young Thrace. There was, however, one face there she did recognize. "Is that...President NaReau?"
"Yes it is. Wonderful guy."
"He's got an arm around you."
"He's very good at hugs." Macy whipped his mouth before standing up and joining her. "Dat's Zion." He pointed to a young, nervous looking, priest.
"He's adorable." She noted, studying the picture more. He had short red hair, flawless dark skin-in fact he looked a lot like a young male version of the doctor.
"I thought so too." Sometimes, the way he smiled reminded her of her father. It was half way there but most of it was in his eyes. Macy's seemed to fade so much faster though, almost like he was afraid to smile. "He stopped Star from killing me when I crashed into the ship."
"You what?"
"My life pod crashed into the side of the ship. Anyway Zion became my best friend. He's over due for a visit."
She pointed at Star, "That's Stargon, but he looks different."
"Handsome devil that he is. Yes, but there are a lot of reasons for that."
Her eyes went wide as she came across the picture of Macy in Star's lips and arms underneath the mistletoe. What caught her off guard is how naturally passionate it looked, defiantly not a friendly kiss. "Were you...?"
"Lovers for a while, yeah. Few years on and off until closer to the last year. Eventually I broke it off, and then opted to go and do some more drifting." It seemed so factual the way it came out of his mouth. Maybe it was the syncing or maybe it was woman's intuition but thinking about the two together made her feel like Macy would have died happy growing old with Star.
"Do you regret it?"
He shifted nervously. "Depends on the day." He looked at her. "I got work to do. If you need anything ask around. Lila is going to want to check up on your condition so stop in later tonight to see her, and if you get the chance, take a shower." She nodded and studied him as he walked away. He flip-flopped again. She wondered if it was her that made him nervous, or if there was something else on his mind. Maybe she was interested in staying around long enough to figure him out. "Oh," He added before heading out the door. "If you think of a way to earn your keep here lemme know." With that he turned down the hall, but he didn't make it far.
"Macy," She heard a man's voice but didn't see him. He sounded older, and not exactly happy. She saw Macy change directions and heard the other man say, "We need to talk" before the door slid closed.
